Blu eCigs have been around for awhile. Blu was purchased a few years ago by a big tobacco company (Lorillard) and competes with some of the other early ecig distibutors – Njoy and Logic. Their focus is more on the mainstream product and less on the new vaporizer type products. The new Blu eCig starter kit has a tobacco taste that many smokers will find appealing. At a cost of $42.99 you get the blu PLUS+ kit plus a USB charger and 2 blue PLUS+ batteries. You can also opt for the newly launched starter pack that goes for only $29.99. The new package is redesigned compared to the earlier model as it looks similar to a vape compared to an eCig. This includes one blu PRO Clearomizer, rechargeable devise, USB cord and eLiquid. I am however of the opinion that an extended battery life would do this pack some good.
How Blue eCigs Work:
The main components of any blue eCig include a battery and small, slim tube with a LED tip at the tip. When you smoke the eCig or rather vape it, the tip lights up to a light blue color. The adjacent end of the tube is made in such a way that you can attach your cartridge to it. For those not familiar with what a cartridge is, they contain nicotine and flavorings. They are the ‘engine’ of the eCigs. Therefore, when you vape, you are inhaling vaporized nicotine.
The packaging has a very sleek design. You might even be duped into thinking it is a big cigarette package. The packaging further has a flip top and on the inside, you will find a black plastic case that houses the chargers (USB and Car charger).
You will also find two batteries in the kit. This is very important as it allows you to charge one battery as you use the other. Included, is a welcome guide that is very helpful for starters. Even the old turf might find it useful when it comes to instructions on assembly and maintenance. You will not have to struggle to look for cartridges as five of them are included with different flavors -two of them being classic tobacco flavors, one cherry, one menthol and one vanilla. Personally, I did not find the vanilla appealing enough. It has too much chemical after-taste in it. Menthol was good, but my favorite is the tobacco classic. All the same, Blu eCigs are far much better compared to Njoy eCigs.
Cartridges come with a built-in atomizer and a silicone tip, with the atomizer enhancing vapor production. On the company’s page, they say one cartridge could serve up to 250 puffs (around one pack of normal cigarettes). Again, you do not have to worry about running out of cartridges as you can order more from the company’s site or retailers at approximately $12-$13 (dependent on the flavor).
Nicotine levels vary on different cartridges with the ones delivered with the kit having the highest levels of around 13-16 mgs. Other levels include medium level with 9-12 mgs, low level with 6-8 mgs. There is also an option of purchasing flavored cartridges that contain no nicotine.
For those not familiar with the nicotine level rankings, Blu eCig uses mgs to categorize. Other companies prefer percentage. Whichever the case, the highest level of nicotine in Blue eCigs is 16 mgs or 1.6% nicotine. In comparison, Logic has an eCig cartridge recorded at 24mgs/2.4%. Njoy, on the other hand, offers the highest levels of nicotine at 4.5%
The Blu eCig is about the size of an ordinary cigarette though a bit heavy. The hard casing of the eCig also makes it hard for you to hold it like you would the analog cig. Holding it like a cigar is, however, more acceptable and comfortable. As for the Njoy King version, it replicates the analog cig almost to perfection, allowing you to hold it like normal cigarettes.
When it comes to the tobacco flavored cartridge, it produces the most accurate smoke experience I have ever had. Not to forget that the atomizer’s released an odorless, fairly thick cloud of vapor. The general feeling was like I was relishing the best of a traditional cigarette, only this time it was a bit heavy.
The only problem worth mentioning perhaps is the loss of potency after around eight hours of use. Signs include the smoke getting thinner as well as blurred tobacco taste. This happened even as the cartridge was not entirely used up. The battery life is also poor on a comparative basis. Sadly, after every two hours of vaping, you have to recharge your batteries.
I do not know whether to write down this as a complaint, but it is rather hard for users to gauge when they have had enough while using Blu eCig. Unlike traditional cigarettes where you realize you are done once you get to the filter, eCigs are a bit hard to deal with. One feature worth mentioning though, Blu eCig’s led blinks five times in cases where you have puffed more than six times in one minute. Unfortunately, the same signal is used to indicate when the battery goes low and needs to be charge thus, causing a bit of confusion.
Out of the three basic vaping kits I have tried out, Blu eCig stands out especially in terms of ‘original feel’. The only drawback is the short battery life of the Blu eCig. But again, its battery is smaller compared to that of Logic eCig.
Now that I was introduced to the world of eCigs using Blu, I find even the taste and smell of traditional cigs disgusting. Though hard-core vapers would brush off Blu as a newbie eCig, I think it does the trick for people just starting out.
